U.S. Construction Sector Growth Prospects

The pickup in housing activity was a welcome boon for the construction sector. Yet with the recent rise in mortgage rates and the drop in U.S. housing starts, there is some increasing concern that the housing market will not grow as strongly as before, weighing on the construction sector going forward.

In this context, we examine the performance of ECRI’s U.S. Leading Construction Index (USLCI), which is designed to anticipate cyclical turning points in construction activity. In combination with ECRI’s U.S. Leading Home Price Index, which anticipates cyclical turns in home prices, this provides reliable insights about the growth prospects for the U.S. construction sector.
