Korean Consumer Spending Prospects

Korean GDP has strengthened somewhat since late last year, but, so far, the major contribution to GDP growth has come from the volatile exports component. In contrast, the less volatile consumer spending contribution was quite small in the second quarter. For the upturn in GDP growth to be sustainable, consumer spending growth needs to pick up in the coming quarters.
