U.K. Service Sector Holds Key to Growth Prospects

The Bank of England recently lowered its 2015 U.K. growth forecast, while maintaining that “the outlook for growth remains solid.” Indeed, despite slower-than-expected GDP growth in Q1, some have attributed the weakness to temporary political uncertainty.

Meanwhile, given its dominance, the service sector remains critical to any economic growth, offsetting weakness elsewhere in the economy. ECRI has just updated its U.K. Leading Services Index, which is designed to anticipate cycles in the U.K. service sector, and its recent performance sheds light on the U.K.’s broader economic growth prospects.
