U.K. Job Growth Boom Fizzles

With the U.K. economy on a recovery track since 2012, many had grown accustomed to continuous improvement in its labor market. However, weaker job market readings of late have caught many by surprise. For instance, the number of people employed recently fell by the most in almost four years, while the unemployment rate also worsened for the first time in over a year.

Economists seemed to be at a loss to explain the weaker readings.  Some just dismissed the data altogether, while others saw it as a sign of a broader growth slowdown.
