Mexican Recovery Linked to U.S. Industrial Sector

Last month, citing export demand as a major driver, the Bank of Mexico noted signs of recovery in the Mexican economy, following the earlier improvement in ECRI’s Mexican Long Leading Index. Mexico is a heavily export-dependent economy, with the U.S. demanding 70% of its exports. Since a large share of Mexican exports are industrial products used in the U.S. manufacturing process, an analysis of Mexican goods exports to the U.S. speaks to the viability of an export-led recovery in Mexico.

ECRI’s latest analysis provides a clearer picture of the Mexican goods exports outlook, examining how U.S. manufacturing demand is likely to affect Mexican exports.
