EZ Inflation Pressures Ease Slightly

Inflationary pressures in the euro area eased slightly in December but remained near November's 11-month high, according to a forward-looking indicator by the Economic Cycle Research Institute on Friday.

New York-based ECRI said its Eurozone Future Inflation Gauge (EZFIG) slipped to 87.6 in December from 87.8 in November, with declining price pressures in Germany and Italy offset by rising pressures in France and Spain.

"The dip in the EZFIG underscores the extent to which the euro zone recovery is weaker than that in the U.S., where the FIG has been risen every month since last February," said ECRI's Lakshman Achuthan.
